Ideal for childcare professionals working in settings such as schools, playgroups, and nurseries, this in-person Paediatric First Aid course has been specifically designed to comply with:

  • OFSTED registration regulations
  • Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework requirements

Paediatric First Aid Qualification Overview:

Comprised of 2 units, this comprehensive first aid course covers:

  • Unit 1: Paediatric Emergency First Aid
  • Unit 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury

This is more than your average paediatric first aid qualification. Our expert training staff will:

  • Empower your team to develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of paediatric first aid scenarios
  • Help staff understand the nuances of administering paediatric first aid compared to assisting adult patients
  • Make the learning process fun, engaging, and memorable

By the end of the programme, learners will be equipped to deal with the kinds of illnesses, injuries, and emergencies that can arise when caring for, supervising, and teaching children.

Course Units and Outcomes

Your Paediatric First Aid Level 3 Course At a Glance

In alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework criteria for effective Paediatric First Aid training (Annex A), here’s everything your employees will learn.

UNIT 1: Paediatric Emergency First Aid

The first unit of learning ensures your team’s ability to administer first aid to babies and children correctly. Candidates become able to assess emergency situations, prioritise what action to take, and know when and how promptly to take action.

Once Unit 1 is completed, candidates will be able to help a baby or a child who is:

  • Unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Having a seizure
  • Choking
  • Bleeding
  • Suffering from shock caused by severe blood loss (hypovolemic shock)

UNIT 2: Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury

The second unit of learning helps your team to understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider, including knowing which essential items to keep in the first aid kit, and the importance of recording accidents and incidents.

Once Unit 2 is completed, candidates will be able to help a baby or a child who is:

  • Suffering from anaphylactic shock
  • Suspected of being poisoned
  • Suffering from the effects of extreme heat or cold
  • Experiencing a diabetic crisis
  • Having an asthma attack
  • Having an allergic reaction (including safe use of Adrenaline Auto-Injectors)
  • Experiencing febrile convulsions
  • Showing signs of Meningitis

Or, has:

  • Had an electric shock
  • Sustained a suspected fracture
  • Suffered burns or scalds
  • Head, neck or back injuries
  • A foreign body in eyes, ears, or nose
  • An eye injury
  • A bite or sting

Both units combined enable learners to emerge fully able to assist in emergency scenarios, with essential lifesaving skills specific to assisting babies and children.

 

Your Staff Training Certificate and Accreditation

Paediatric First Aid Level 3 Certification

 

  • Successfully completing this course of training earns each candidate an official certificate, which will be valid for 3 years.
  • After the 3 years is up, your first aiders will have to retrain to remain within legal requirements, and to ensure your skills stay sharp.

The FRFA Paediatric First Aid course is accredited by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB).

  • For courses inside the M25, please note the price per group is £1138+ vat; and the price per individual is £199+vat.
  • This course is also available as one of our Blended courses – which offers a mix of in-person, practical training and online learning - a different way to gain first aid skills.
  • The duration of this first aid course is 12 hours. This is split over 2 days.
  • Up to 12 candidates can be taught per 1 FRFA Trainer/Assessor.
  • Assessment and certification for our courses requires candidates to complete activities, practical evaluation, and a test paper.
  • There are no pre-requisites for individuals to be able to undergo this training.
  • It is recommended that candidates complete refresher training annually, with mandatory work requalification every 3 years.
